First off, I knew this remake wasn’t going to be a masterpiece, most things Michael Bay and his minions turn out I usually don’t love. I really, really wanted to like this, because I’m thinking it’s a new Jason movie how bad can it be? Well, I got my answer, because it wasn’t bad, it was just blah. What happened?

First off, I think Derek Mears (Jason 2009) was so underused. He really did have the potential to be a great Jason, instead he was barely on screen and when he was it was hard to make out the kills. Mears is agile and huge. Use him. I guarantee he was up for the challenge. Instead he seemed to popping up in odd places, and he was so poorly lit. Did Christian Bale yell at your lighting guy as well? It was really hard at times to tell what was he was doing.
The kills. Really? I mean come on fellas we are supposed to be the generation of desensitized, violent video game players. You are going to have to do better than that. You have Spielberg money backing you; you could have gone all out. How did the 1980’s Friday manage to have more blood than this movie? Are you sure it was R, because it felt PG-13 to me. Even the copycat kills seemed watered down and the new kills, again really. A suggestion: You should have just let him beat the girl in the sleeping bag against the tree like the original, that was better. Instead you set her on fire, not scary, not funny, just… :\

Where was the Jason sound? Sorry, boys it ain’t Jason without the kill, kill, kill sound. I will give you an A for effort in the comedy; there were moments that were funny, not side splitting, but cleaver. I won’t spoil the plot; you already know it. Jason’s drowns, Mommy goes crazy, offs everyone, girl cuts mommy’s head off, Jason watches, comes back from dead to kill everyone else. But, there’s a stupid twist, they would have never freakin’ happened, but it’s a horror movie so we’ll ignore it. I’m just saying it wasn’t really that necessary to the plot, but I guess we had to get Padalecki in the movie somehow right?
I don’t know my two year old niece might see this in 10 years or so, and feel about it the way I feel about Friday the 13th 1980. But, to me it was a huge let down. It felt more like a MTV production rather, than the “re-imagining” Fuller, Form and Bay promised us. I don’t care what they say; this movie was aimed solely at new fans. It literally shot us old fans the big proverbial bird. Now, more than ever I am frightened about what they are going to do to A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Your turn. Thoughts, groans, moans.

I probably won't see this until it gets released on DVD. Is it really like an MTV movie? Ick.
1I just came home from seeing FRIDAY the 13th! I agree BLAAAAH! I really do not have much to say , it was a let down
2Darn,I will see it on dvd.Was Willa Ford In this much? I just read an article that said she was in it?
3Willa wasn't in it that much. Got naked, got killed. LOL!
Smile Like You Mean It!
4I thought it was really bad. I agree with you LaLa, they should have shown more Jason and less talk. The end was SO stupid. I won't give anything away, but they should have gone with a different ending.
5I hate to say it, but Zombie's Halloween remake was better and I hated that so...
Smile Like You Mean It!
6i wont read anything since i havent seen it but..is it worth my cash?
7I would save my money and rent it if I were you. That's my plan for the evitable sequels.
Smile Like You Mean It!
8If the Halloween remake is better than I really know I'm not going to like this one.
Some days it's not even worth chewing through the restraints.
9LOL. i totally heart the halloween remake. mostly cause i love anything zombie does.
i will probably be hitting up watch - movies - links- . net to watch.
10This movie should NOT even be classified as a horror, it had more nudity in it then blood, violence, and gore. I was expecting so much more! If you are a true horror fan, you are going to be upset but if your a amateur then maybe this is the right movie for ya!
11Inside and Frontiers 2 great recent French movies, LALA check em out....Let me know ur view
12I posted some comments of Friday the 13th in my review group. I'll fetch them and post it here...
brb
13Friday The 13th.. when you have Michael Bay producing, even in a slasher, the cinematograpy is going to be very good.
They also came up with new ways for Jason to kill. And instead of being a Frankenstein-like slow stalker, Jason is very fast and fleet on foot. All of this still doesnt garnish more than 1.25 stars out of 5.
14A colleague asked me today, if I thought he would enjoy this movie. Hes a huge horror fan.
And I told him, the movie is very weak critically, 1.25 stars out of 5 is pretty bad.
But, still I thought it was entertaining, and moved quickly.
A great Slasher only comes along about once every 10 years, at the most. So I usually expect no more than 1.5 stars out of a remake or sequel. But even bad movies can still be entertaining. However if your looking for good, I would definately wait for dvd or cable on this one.
This same group is doing a Nightmare on Elm Street remake soon.. Im not expecting anything more than some good cinematography from it..
15I went to see it on Friday. I'm actually having trouble conjuring up a real opinion because there was nothing memorable about it, if that gives you any indication as to the quality of the film. I recall laughing at inappropriate times, being disappointed when I realized there were no more stupid characters to be killed off, and just plain annoyed because I was sitting in front of a row of chatty kids who jumped at everything and probably aren't even aware of the series.
Definitely wait to rent.
16I agree Grantz, for a bad movie it did keep me entertained for an hour and a half. Unfortunately the horror genre is hard to take seriously anymore.
17I've seen both Frontiers and Inside, xten20. And you are right they are both awesome. Foreign horror is the way to go, unfortunately Hollywood has no clue with what to do with genre', hence the remakes and rip-off from foreign markets. It's truly
And, I completely agree with you Grantz, a pretty pic, shot by people who came (and should have continued) doing music videos. I just can't figure out why they couldn't figure out what to do with Derek Mears. I am happy he returned to running, agile Jason, but he was underused. The movie should have been more about him, they really dropped the ball imo. He actually tried to give Jason a personality.
And I don't know if guys have heard, but Samuel Bayer, the director of Nirvana's, Smell's Like Teen Spirit, is directing the Nightmare on Elm Street Remake. I mean no offense, but he's never done a feature. So, it's going to be BAD. I can't say this enough, brace yourselves.
Smile Like You Mean It!
18if the cinematography is so good, then why are some of the closeups out of focus, and why is there constant shaky-cam to obscure killshots.
The entire film felt and looked too much like the Texas chainsaw remake...and what a surprise, same director!
19I think that was on purpose, trying to make it seem like the "low-budget" first movie, when clearly they had money to spend, hence the really pretty water shots. That's Platinum Dunes' shtick, trying to make it look slick, but it comes out more like, huh?
Honestly, I want them to stop, but this made like $50 mil or something, they are already planning the shi**y sequel as we speak.
Smile Like You Mean It!
20InGlorious Bastards looks interesting, hopefully not a let down...........At least QT knows his sh**
21I really want to see Inglorious Bastards. You know Tarantino should do a straight up slasher movie, that would be something to see. Can you imagine it?
Smile Like You Mean It!
22According to him, he already did! It was called "Death Proof" within a half hour my bf and I wanted to hang ourselves but yes a true slasher film would be cool.
23all this has me smh in disappointment. i'm no longer even looking forward to the freddy remake.
24Well... I still think the Freddy Remake has a chance to be entertaining. Im not expecting anything more than 1.5 out 5 critically. But, unlike Jason, who is just a deranged killer, Freddy Kruger actually posesses supernatural powers; able to penetrate dreams.
So, Im giving Freddy the benifit of the doubt, and am looking forward to an entertaining trip back back to film horror of the 80s. It just wont be critically special.
Cheers~ Grantz
