I tried not to do this, but my TIVO died this weekend, so here goes. I watched the theatrical release of the Halloween remake. I had previously watched the original theatrical release which was awful, so I avoided watching the dvd of the theatrical version, once was enough you know. But, several of my friends said they had changed it and it was better. They were wrong, it wasn’t better, it was just as terrible.
Problems with this Movie
• It’s a remake, which already meant it would not be able to stand against the original. And Rob Zombie proved that point.
• What was with the white trash family? I gathered that Zombie trying to make us believe this is the reason for Michael’s crazy. But, it failed, Michael in the original is scarier, because there was no reason for his crazy, he just was. His killing had no motive.
• Speaking of motive at first he has Michael killing people that kind of deserved it to a certain degree, the degenerate live-in boyfriend of the mom, the bullies, maybe the older sister and the nurse that made fun of him. The rapists, yes off with their heads. The rape victim, what did she do? But, skip ahead to the killing of, the Strodes, Lorie’s adoptive parents. Why kill them? The janitor who had been nice to him, the whole 15 years, why kill him?
• The reworking of the characters…Linda and her boyfriend decide to have sex in the Myers house, where all those people died? Uh, who does that? I liked that we never saw Annie’s boyfriend, Paul, in the original and I guess technically we didn’t this time to, but the whole scene just seemed like an excuse for Danielle Harris to show her boobs.
• What was with the capturing of Lorie to take her back to his lair? That’s what it felt like to me anyway. Why was Malcolm McDowell who is usually a badass such a pansy in this movie, nothing like Dr. Loomis?
• The random placement of the Halloween music, Zombie tried to sprinkle the original music into scenes, where it had no place. It felt forced and un-needed.
Now having said that there were parts that were actually good, the movie on the all was beautifully shot. For instance if you watch the movie, check out the scene where they arrest young Michael, it was one of the best shots of the movie.

And one more thing why did they make Michael Myers grow-up to be incredible Hulk in size? Where did that come from? So what did you guys think?

Therapy
I think this is the WORST remake I've seen. It actually offends me. There was no need for that disgusting rape scene, no reason for a stripper mom and the slightly incestuous and entirely smarmy broken up husband, and no excuse as to why Michael killed the guard who was nice to him. We saw with the killing of his family he didn't hold a grudge with those who he considered nice to him. Oh and HELLO the whole escape from the institution was ridiculous. It totally takes away the fact that Michael *waited* 16 years for one specific day to get out and kill his sister. This version made it a fortunate happenstance that two nasty-ass guards decided to rape a crazy girl and torture a 7 foot murdering GIANT (and yes how exactly did he become so massive? Are phych wards offering weight lifting for the criminally insane?) so he could get back home to NOT kill Lori but to kill her foster parents, her friends and any random walking about. SUCKY MOVIE.
Some days it's not even worth chewing through the restraints.
1Well said, Ruthie. Weight training, LOL!!!
