Oh, so we were supposed to think that a film that made $50 mil was in danger of not having a sequel. The “official” word from Platinum Dunes is that second Friday remake will be a departure from the previous movies in the original franchise. Ok, so they think the reboot was like it’s predecessors. That’s scary guys, really, really scary. Here are the supposed deathtails:

New Line and Platinum Dunes are moving forward on a new "Friday the 13th" and that Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who wrote the recently released reboot, are beginning work on a script for a new picture.

Unlike the sophomore efforts of other film franchises, the new "Friday" is expected to be not a sequel so much as a follow-up, those familiar with the project say. Jason Voorhees would still be the villain, but the new picture is expected to use elements of the original franchise more as a jumping-off point than as a template. The recently released "Friday" relaunch drew from the first four pictures in the series, and producers are said not to be keen on the plot elements of the half-dozen movies that followed.

Note to Shannon and Swift:
Your reboot was a departure from the franchise, and corny as the previous films tended to be, they were still better than your take. But, wait guys there is this beautiful ray of light on this depression train.
Insiders caution that there is no green light for the Friday 2.
FOR JOY! Perhaps Michael Bay’s minions should entertain the idea of hiring other writers to pen the next Friday. Maybe they could get someone that has actually seen Friday the 13th, this time. That would be great!
